Jenny Cavanagh

MACN CNC

Jenny completed her generalist nursing training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney. It was during this time, in a rotation through the Burns Unit, that her thirst for wound care began. She was invited and attended the first ever H.E.M.I run intensive wound care course which set her on her current path.

Jenny has held many positions including executive on the Wound Care Association of NSW, Wounds Australia (NSW) and the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association. She has presented at conferences locally, interstate and internationally winning the prestigious first ever British Burns Nurses prize for presenting at an international conference. Jenny has also written a number of articles over the years and even contributed to published books about wound care.

Jenny has been involved in designing programs and implementing Pressure Area Guidelines around the facilities she has worked in and the state. She led a team to win the Innovation in Healthcare Award in NSW for a program that is still run today.

For the past 23 years she has been working in community, always aiming to deliver best practice though knowledge of wound care products and adjunct therapies, advocating firmly on her patient’s behalf.

In her down time, you may find her in her happy place – skiing; or even on a NSW Rural Fire Service vehicle attending an incident, or teaching and assessing for that organisation.

Testimonials

“As an education day that is offered free by your organisation I feel that we are lucky to have the opportunity to attend. The food was great.  I trained at the Austin Hospital in Nursing so I am well aware of the history of the organisation, which has come a long way since they supported the patients on our ward.”

“It was an excellent day. A great variety in presenters, delicious food and loved the drinks afterward! A great variety of trade displays too.”

“It was a fabulous day and I thoroughly enjoyed – lovely to be out to the facility and attending events face to face again. The spread provided was wonderful, and all the exhibitors were happy to talk and help with my questions.”

“Everything is excellent. Free registration, great food, well learned and expert speakers, and freebies from the sponsors. This is one of the great conferences I attend. A big thank you for the organisers and sponsors. Thank you Independence Australia!”
